Beethoven

Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in a small town ‘Bonn’ of Germany on 16 December 1770 in a family of professional musicians. His father Johann and grandfather Ludwig were musicians and they had decided to train him in music right from his childhood, so his father took on the job to teach him the basic lessons of music. Ludwig learned violin and some other instruments from his father. His father wanted Ludwig to be perfect in music, and in that endeavor he thrashed littel Ludwig whenever he made any mistake during practice (According to one story, because of the punishments given by his father Ludwig suffered from hearing problems in future, which ruined his life). Besides the fact that his father and grandfather had a wish that little Ludwig should become a great musician, he himself had a great interest in music. Whatever treatment Ludwig received from his father, he never let fade his love and interest in music.

History of Thanksgiving

Although Thanksgiving celebrations dated back to the first European settlements in America, it was not until the 1860s that Abraham Lincoln declared the last Thursday of November to be a national holiday.

How the Earth Was Made

There's a lot of information in How the Earth Was Made, but perhaps the most interesting relates to time. Quite often, the numbers are so staggering that scientists refer to it as "deep time," an appropriate term when one grapples with the notion that our planet is 4.5 billion years old, or that the oceans were formed by rainfall that lasted literally millions of years, or that 700 million years ago, Earth was completely covered by ice that was a mile thick, with surface temperatures reaching minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit. On the other end of the scale are numbers that seem surprisingly small: for instance, it wasn't until 220 years ago that the accepted church doctrine regarding the planet's age (no more than 6000 years, according to the Bible) was seriously challenged and that the key to its past was found in rocks, not scripture, while the discovery that dinosaurs once ruled the Earth came considerably later than that.

The Universe: Secrets of the Sun

The sun is enormous source of heat and energy. It has a surface temperature of 10 thousand degrees Fahrenheit and generates 380,000,000,000 billion megawatts of power. Hoover Dam in Nevada only generates 2,080 megawatts. In 1 second the sun turns out more energy than being used in all of the human civilization. All that power in a blink of an eye! Incredibly it’s been burning this way for billions of years!

The Sun

Every second 5 million tons of the sun is converted to pure energy and although it's burning over 5 billion years it's only half way through its supply of hydrogen. The light produced in the core of the sun must travel over a half a million kilometers to the surface and it does so very slowly. The heart of the sun is so dense that the speed of light is less than 1 millimeter per second. It can take 200,000 years for the light to travel from the core to the surface. It takes just another 8 minutes to get to the earth.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO)

The first images of NASAs Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) have been revealed, astonishing heliophysicists with their brilliant clarity. Launched Feb. 11, 2010, SDO is the most advanced spacecraft ever designed to study the sun and its dynamic behavior. The spacecraft can produce images with clarity ten times better than high definition television and provide more comprehensive science data faster than any solar observing spacecraft in history. SDO will help scientists study solar activity to improve forecasts of how the suns weather affects Earth. www.nasa.gov/sdo...
